Synopsis:

"The Heirs" depicts the friendships, rivalries and love lives of young, rich heirs led by Kim Tan (Lee Min-Ho) and a girl named Cha Eun-Sang (Park Shin-Hye). Unlike the others, Cha Eun-Sang is considered ordinary and comes from a poor background.

18-year-old Cha Eun-Sang lives with her mother who is mute. Her mother works as a housekeeper and Eun-Sang also works part-time jobs to help out. One day, Eun-Sang's older sister (Yoon Jin-Seo) calls from the U.S. and informs them that she will marry. Eun-Sang's mother then asks Eun-Sang to send her older sister some money from her savings account. Eun-Sang isn't happy with her situation and decides to go to the U.S. herself to see if she can start a better life with her sister.

When Eun-Sang arrives in California she is in for a shock. Her older sister lives in a filthy home with a deadbeat boyfriend who seems violent. Her sister is also not getting married or going to school and works full-time as a waitress. When Eun-Sang finally tracks down her sister working at a beach front restaurant, she takes the money Eun-Sang brought for her wedding and leaves without even saying goodbye. Eun-Sang's dreams of starting a better life in America quickly vanishes and she crumbles to the ground in tears.

Meanwhile, Kim Tan is not your typical high school student, but a handsome and wealthy Korean heir to a large conglomeration. He is sitting out on the patio of the beach front restaurant, watching everything unfold between Eun-Sang and her sister. Kim Tan's American friend then sees a ziplock bag with a powdery substance fall out of Eun-Sang's suitcase and runs over to scoop it up. Kim Tan knows immediately that the ziplock bag doesn't contain drugs, but rather powder grain to make traditional Korean drinks. Soon, Eun-Sang runs off after Kim Tan's friend and Kim Tan goes to help Eun-Sang. When the dust is settled, Eun-Sang walks out of a police station and her passport is temporarily confiscated. With nowhere to go for Eun-Sang, Kim Tan offers to let her stay at his home. Although they seem to come from different worlds, they quickly develop a rapport for each other. But, when Kim Tan is at school, Eun-Sang meets a girl named Rachel (Kim Ji-Won). Rachel informs Eun-Sang that she is Kim Tan's fiance and she demands that Eun-Sang leaves his home immediately. Eventually, Eun-Sang returns to South Korea.

Kim Tan now feels nothing but emptiness after Eun-Sang's departure. He decides to go back to Korea even though his older stepbrother Won (Choi Jin-Hyuk) strongly opposes his return. When Kim Tan gets back to his luxurious mansion like home, he sees someone briefly that resembles Eun-Sang. Kim Tan goes to his mother Ki-Ae (Kim Sung-Ryoung) and asks about the unfamiliar, but familiar girl that he briefly saw. His mother tells him that the girl is their housekeeper's daughter and her name is Cha Eun-Sang. She's also staying in their home.

Synopsis:

Several years ago Kong-Sil (Kong Hyo-Jin) was involved in an accident. Since that incident, Kong-Sil is able to see and hear ghosts. She's also terrified of the ghosts that appear constantly around her. Because of this, she's unable to live a normal life. Kong-Sil lives in a rooftop room at an extended stay inn. She makes a living by doing odd jobs at the inn, including cleaning.

Meanwhile Joong-Won (So Ji-Sub) is the president of an extravagant shopping mall named Kingdom. He is also arrogant and calculative. Everything relates to him in terms of money.

One raining evening, Kong-Sil goes to room 404 to clean, but she sees another ghosts. She freaks out and runs up to her rooftop room. The ghost, who looks like an old woman, appears right next to her again. Kong-Sil then does the old woman ghost a favor and goes to her home. She hands the ghost's son a bankbook with more than 10,000 dollars in the account.

Joong-Won sits face to face with a man who owns land that he needs to build a golf course. The man tells Joong-Won that his deceased wife does not want him to sell the land. Joong-Won doesn't believe in ghosts and ignores him. He pulls out a contract which the man's children already signed. Joong-Won is able to get the man's signature.

On his way back from that meeting, Joong-Won is driven by his assistant (Choi Jung-Woo). The driver then sees a woman thumbing for a ride. Joong-Won tells his driver to ignore the woman, but a light suddenly shines on them and the car stops. At this time, Kong-Sil hops into the car and thanks them for picking her up. Kong-Sil unintentionally touches Joong-Won and feels something unusual. Later, the car pulls over at a highway rest stop. While walking back to the car, Joong-Won sees Kong-Sil talking to someone, but there isn't anyone else there. Thinking she might be crazy, Joong-Won turns around, but Kong-Sil grabs his arm. She discovers that whenever she touches him, the ghosts around her disappear.

Back at her rooftop room, Kong-Sil is terrified by the ghosts around her as usual. She thinks back to Joong-Won and how the ghosts disappeared when she touched him. Kong-Sil decides to go Kingdom shopping mall to meet Joong-Won again.

Synopsis:

9-year-old Soo-Ha (later played by Lee Jong-Suk) and his father are riding together in a car when they are suddenly struck by a truck driven by Min Joon-Kook (Jung Woong-In). Min Joon-Kook then gets out of his truck and jumps on the hood of their car. Soo-Ha and Min Joon-Kook's eyes meet through the windshield of his father's car. Suddenly, Soo-Ha is able to hear the man's violent thoughts .. "I need to finish this."

Min Joon-Kook goes to his truck and gets out a baseball bat. He fatally strikes Soo-Ha's father dead with the bat. Soo-Ha is in complete shock. When Min Joon-Kook turns to strike Soo-Ho, the sound of a camera flash goes off and Min Joon-Kook goes after whoever is taking the pictures. This saves Soo-Ha's life.

The person with the camera is a young girl named Hye-Sung (later played by Lee Bo-Young). Later, Hye-Sung testifies against Min Joon-Kook in court. Min Joon-Kook claims that Soo-Ha's father died in the car accident. Through the court proceedings, Soo-Ha falls in love with Hye-Sung. Soo-Ha promises to protect Hye-Sung from Min Joon-Kook, when he threatens to get revenge on her.

10 years later, Soo-Ha is now an exemplary high student. Nobody is aware that Soo-Ha possesses telepathic abilities.

Meanwhile, Hye-Sung now works as an attorney, but she doesn't uphold the virtues of her profession very well. She is also not very successful and barely makes $1,000 a month. Her mother then pushes her to apply for a public defender position due to its higher pay.

In the waiting room, prior to taking her interview, Kwan-Woo (Yoon Sang-Hyun) strikes up a conversation with Hye-Sung, but she ignores him. Kwan-Woo is applying for the same position. He originally worked as a police officer, but went back to law school to become a public defender. During her interview, Hye-Sung talks about the events that occurred 10 years ago and this helps her land the public defender position.

After Hye-Sung gets the job, her picture is posted in the newspaper. Soo-Ha sees her photo and becomes elated that he can finally see her. At the same time, Min Joon-Kook sees her photo while in prison. He is soon set to be released.
